The leader of the band Shironamhin Ziaur Rahman has said that in the realm of personal existence, even when one fails to fulfil their desires, it is ‘hope’ that keeps people alive.

‘To lose does not always mean that all is lost. In the realm of personal existence, even if one fails to fulfil their desires, “hope” keeps people alive,’ Ziaur Rahman told Ʒ.

He also thinks that a band achieves success when it releases a song and the song is well received by the audience.

On Thursday night, the band released its new song titled Jane Na Keu.

Made with the help of Synergy Solutions, the music video of the song, second from its upcoming album ‘Batighar’, was shot in Sissu and Solang Valley and Beas River in Manali in Himachal Pradesh, and at Delhi Rail Station in India.

Ziaur Rahman directed the music video, Rony Sharafat was the director of photography, while Shifat Amin Shuvo and Jannatul Ferdous Bismee acted in the video.

Speaking about the song, Zia said, ‘“Janena Keu” serves as a call to not relinquish hope. It is a ballad of anguish recounting struggles in life; a song unsung, expressing melancholy.’

Renowned for extended psychedelic and progressive compositions, multi-instrumental experimentation and philosophical lyrics, the rock band, formed in 1996, emerging from Dhaka’s underground music in the ‘90s, took eight years to release its debut album ‘Jahaji’ in 2004.

After that, it became one of the leading bands of Bangla progressive rock genre. So far, the band has released albums— ‘Ichchhe Ghuri’ in 2006, ‘Bondho Janala’ in 2009, ‘Shironamhin Rabindranath’ in 2010, ‘Shironamhin Shironamhin’ in 2013 and ‘Perfume’ in 2023.

Shironamhin comprises Ziaur Rahman, Kazy Ahmad Shafin, Symon Chowdhury, Sheikh Ishtiaque and Sudipto Sinha Dipu. The members of the band spoke about the new song and shared their views.

Kazy Ahmad Shafin said, ‘We would like to perform songs for many years, and want to live in the midst of music.’

Mentioning that the enthusiasm of young people from different platforms inspires him, Sheikh Ishtiaq, vocalist of the band, said, ‘The youth is the main driving force of our band.’

‘I believe, we have many more new creations to deliver,’ said Symon Chowdhury, keyboardist of the band.

The guitarist of the band, Sudipto Sinha Dipu, said that the busyness of the band kept him away from his family. ‘But, I enjoy the joy of love for music,’ he said.

The band likes to create music that can leave an impression on the people akin to that of myths and parables infusing traditional classical instruments such as sarod, esraj, mandira and dotara along with rock music.

Speaking about its new album, Zia mentioned, ‘Batighar is our eighth album. It will contain a total of 10 songs. The songs will also be released in English version for international audiences.’

‘Batighar will include songs under the titles “Kotodur”, “Nihshabdapur”, “Klanta Coffeeshop”, “Shubha Janmadin”, “Priyatama” and “Ei Obelay-2”. We will gradually release the songs,’ concluded Ziaur Rahman.
