The prices of 10 types of stents or rings imported from three companies to use in the treatment of heart disease in the country have dropped.

According to a circular from the health and family welfare ministry, the prices of the rings imported from Abbott, Boston and Medtronic companies have been lowered.


The circular signed on Sunday by the senior assistant secretary of the ministry said that the government published the retailer prices of the items after recommendations from the specialists advisory committee.

All the three medical service companies are based in the United States.

The price of Medtronic’s ‘Resolute Onyx’ has been reduced from Tk 1,40,500 to Tk 90,000, and the price of ‘Onyx Trucor’ has been reduced to Tk 50,000 from Tk 72,500.

The price of Boston Healthcare’s ‘Promus Elite’ has been reduced to Tk 72,000 from Tk 79,000; the price of its ‘Promus Premier’ has dropped to Tk 70,000 from Tk 73,000; the price of ‘Synergy’ has been lowered to Tk 90,000 from Tk 1,17,000; the price of ‘Synergy Shield’ has dropped to Tk 90,000 from Tk 1,20,000; and the price of ‘Synergy XD’ has been reduced to Tk 1,00,000 from Tk 1,88,000.

The price of Abbott Laboratories’s Xience Prime has dropped to Tk 50,000 from Tk 66,600; the price of ‘Xience Alpine’ has been reduced to Tk 90,000 from Tk 1,40,500; and the price of ‘Xience Sierra’ has been lowered to Tk 90,000 from Tk 1,40,000. But the price of ‘Xience Xpedition’ has remained the same at Tk 71,500.

The government has also asked hospitals not to add service charge above 5 per cent to the price of the rings.

Earlier, in April 2024, the government again reduced the stents’ price.
