Helen Keller International and MetLife Foundation have jointly launched a programme to support 500 poverty-stricken families in haor region of Sunamganj in Sylhet.

The initiative will help families engage in income-generating activities to overcome poverty, said a press release issued by MetLife Foundation on Saturday.


Under the project, beneficiaries will receive training in both on-farm and off-farm trades, including livestock and poultry rearing, tailoring, aquaculture, small business ventures, fishing (boat and net) and commercial vegetable farming.

Acting country director of Helen Keller International Md Mahmudul Hasan said, ‘We have always strived to support people living in poverty and to create a long-term positive impact on society.’

MetLife Bangladesh chief executive officer Ala Ahmad said that the initiative would not only empower hundreds of families to build a better future but also contribute positively to the national economy.

The release added that MetLife Foundation, an international life insurer, has long supported development initiatives in Bangladesh, with a focus on economic inclusion, financial health and building resilient communities.
