Direction Technology (Bangladesh) Company Limited, a Chinese-owned company, is set to establish a manufacturing facility at the Chattogram Export Processing Zone to produce Bluetooth headphones, wired headphones and data cables.
To this end, Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority member (investment promotion) Md Ashraful Kabir and Direction Technology managing director Li Fanfan signed an investment agreement on Thursday, said a press release.
Direction Technology will invest $3 million in the project, creating employment opportunities for 478 Bangladeshi nationals.
The company’s focus on wired headphones, Bluetooth headphones, and data cables highlights Bangladesh’s shift toward higher-value, technology-oriented manufacturing and complements the country’s growing electronics sector.
This investment will not only reduce Bangladesh’s reliance on traditional apparel and textile industries but also diversify BEPZA’s export basket, adding a new dimension to technology-based manufacturing in the EPZ, the release said.
BEPZA executive chairman Major General Abul Kalam Mohammad Ziaur Rahman oversaw the signing ceremony.
Welcoming Direction Technology as a new member of the BEPZA family, he said that while Bangladesh was globally known for its apparel industry, BEPZA was equally committed to diversifying its export basket.
He noted that this investment added a new product line in electronics, reflecting BEPZA’s invitation to diversified industries.
He assured the company of the BEPZA’s full support and called on them to maintain 100 per cent compliance in operations.
Among others, BEPZA member (engineering) Abdullah Al Mamun, member (finance) ANM Foyzul Haque, executive director (investment promotion) Md Tanvir Hossain, executive director (enterprise services) Md Khorshid Alam and executive director (public relations) ASM Anwar Parvez were present alongside representatives of Direction Technology.
