Team Group has awarded scholarships to 33 meritorious students from Hazi Piar Ali School, located adjacent to the company’s 4A Yarn Dyeing Ltd manufacturing facility in Savar.
The scholarships were presented on Thursday as part of Team Group’s ongoing commitment to develop sustainable communities and quality education, said a press release.
A significant number of children of 4A Yarn Dyeing factory workers study at this school, where the Team Group had also established a computer lab earlier.
The scholarship program, launched under the Wahid-Kohinoor Foundation, was announced by the late Abdullah Hil Rakib, founder of Team Group, in June 2024 to promote SDG-4 (Quality Education) and SDG-11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).
Managing director Afroza Shaheen and deputy managing director Abdullah Hil Nakib presented the awards to students from classes 1 through 10 at the school premises. Director of Team Group Lamia Tabassum was also present on the occasion with senior officials from TEAM Group, according to a press release.
The scholarship amounts vary by class and performance category. Students from class 1 to class 5 were awarded 3 categories of scholarships – category 1 amounts to Tk 5,000, category 2 amounts to Tk 3,000, and category 3 amounts to Tk 2000. While students from class 6 to class 10 were also given 3 categories of scholarships. But for the category-1 amounts to Tk 6,000, category-2 amounts to Tk 4,000, and category-3 amounts to Tk 2000.
Each scholarship recipient also received a commemorative crest recognizing their academic achievement.
‘Team Group has always been people-centric and committed to contributing to communities where it conducts business. This scholarship is a continuity of fulfilling our commitment,’ said Afroza Shaheen, managing director of Team Group.
‘We believe that an educated generation will be the key driving force for sustainable development in the future. This scholarship is not just financial assistance, but also a symbol of our trust and affection for each student. We hope they will illuminate society and the nation even more in the days ahead,’ said Abdullah Hil Nakib, deputy managing director, TEAM Group.
The program holds special significance for the local community, as many 4A Yarn Dyeing Ltd workers live in the area surrounding the factory, and their children attend Hazi Piar Ali School.
