A high-level event titled ‘Welcoming AFI CEO Alfred Hannig at Microcredit Regulatory Authority, Bangladesh’ was held on Monday, said a press release.

Alliance for Financial Inclusion chief executive officer Alfred Hannig attended the event as guest of honour. He was accompanied by Nangsi Dema, AFI regional manager for Asia.


MRA executive vice-chairman Mohammad Helal Uddin chaired the session. 

Alfred Hannig stated, ‘The Microcredit Regulatory Authority stands out for its commitment to innovation and balanced regulation in the microfinance sector. Through its active participation in AFI’s global platforms, MRA has helped shape meaningful reforms in digital finance, client protection, and green financial services — not only in Bangladesh but across the AFI network.’

During his address, Mohammad Helal Uddin, said, ‘MRA’s alliance with AFI is a story of mutual growth. Over more than twelve years, we have collaborated to promote smart and balanced regulations in the microfinance sector. We are proud to be part of working groups such as DFSWG, CEMC, GIF, IGFWG, and FISPLG, which have allowed us to contribute to—and benefit from—global best practices.’

The event concluded with a renewed commitment to strengthening regulatory cooperation, leveraging digital innovation and expanding inclusive financial systems designed to leave no one behind. The MRA reaffirmed its role as a regional leader in financial inclusion and expressed deep appreciation to AFI for the continued partnership in building resilient, client-centric and future-ready financial ecosystems, the release said.
