
Mutual Trust Bank PLC announced the election of three distinguished professionals to its board of directors.
Syed Nasim Manzur and Tapan Chowdhury have been made directors and Zareen Mahmud Hosein an independent director of the bank.
Syed Nasim Manzur, a distinguished Bangladeshi industrialist and the Managing Director of Apex Footwear Limited, a leading leather footwear manufacturer and exporter in Bangladesh has been elected as a Director in the Board of MTB.
He is the son of Late Syed Manzur Elahi, a renowned entrepreneur, former advisor to the Caretaker Government of Bangladesh and the Founding Chairman of Mutual Trust Bank PLC.
In addition to leading Apex Footwear, he holds key positions in several companies, including Chairman of Landmark Footwear Ltd. and serves as Director of Apex Tannery Ltd., Apex Pharma Ltd., and Blue Ocean Footwear Ltd, among others.
Tapan Chowdhury has been elected as director in the board of MTB representing ASTRAS Limited in place of Anika Chowdhury.
He is a prominent Bangladeshi industrialist and the second son of the late Samson H Chowdhury, founder of Square Group.
Chowdhury began his career at Square Pharmaceuticals, working in the marketing department, where he was instrumental in promoting products and building relationships with healthcare professionals across Bangladesh.
In 1995, he was appointed managing director of Square Pharmaceuticals Ltd., and he also serves as Chairman of Square Textiles Ltd.
In 2007, he served as an adviser to Bangladesh’s caretaker government, overseeing ministries such as power and energy, youth and sports, food and disaster management, and science and ICT.
Zareen Mahmud Hosein is the founding partner of Snehasish Mahmud and Co, Chartered Accountants. She is also the founder of HerStory Foundation and CholPori, a blended learning platform.
She is the editor of the two volumes of HerStories: Adventures of SuperGirls, books on homegrown female role models.
Zareen started her career at New York City Mayor’s Budget Office and then served at KPMG, LLP in New York where she qualified as a Certified Public Accountant. She moved to Bangladesh and worked at ACNABIN, Chartered Accountants, before starting her own practice.
Zareen serves on the board of Campaign for Popular Education (CAMPE), Shasha Denims Limited, Bangladesh Mahila Samity and Entrepreneurs’ Organization (EO) Bangladesh. Previously, she has served on the Board of Aga Khan Foundation Bangladesh, Sajida Foundation and Ghashful and was president of EO Bangladesh.
She has a BA from Smith College and an MPA from New York University. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh and an Acumen Fellow.
