The National Board of Revenue on Thursday formed a six member committee to formulate a framework for separation of revenue policy and revenue management.
The members are: Tax Administration and Human Resource Management member GM Abul Kalam Kaikobad, Customs and VAT Administration member Farzana Afroz, Tax Audit Intelligence and Investigation member Md Alamgir Hossain, Customs Audit, Modernization and International Trade member Kazi Mostafizur Rahman, Tax Legal and Enforcement - chief coordinator Mutasim Billah Farooqui and VAT Policy member Md Abdur Rouf.
The committee will meet in coordination with the Consultative Committee on Revenue Reforms to adopt an action plan.
Later, in consultation with representatives of BCS (tax) and BCS (customs and VAT excise) cadres, it will meet with the finance adviser to determine the action to be taken.
NBR chairman Md Abdur Rahman Khan on the day called on tax officials to expedite revenue collection efforts in the final days of the 2024-25 financial year, underscoring the critical importance of meeting the government’s financial needs amid a challenging economic environment.
He made the call while addressing a revenue collection progress review meeting held at the NBR’s headquarters at the city’s Revenue Building.
The meeting was convened to assess the performance of the Customs and VAT Divisions up to May and to strategise ways to improve revenue intake during the concluding period of the fiscal year.
‘I urge all revenue officials to prioritise achieving their respective targets and to take coordinated action to collect outstanding dues. Every additional taka collected reduces our reliance on debt and contributes to economic stability,’ said Abdur Rahman.
Meanwhile, the revenue board has announced that from July 1, submission of all certificates, licences and permits from 19 designated organizations must be done through the Bangladesh Single Window system for import and export customs clearance.
After the mentioned date, no manual certificates, licenses and permits will be accepted for customs clearance of goods, the revenue collecting authority said in a press release.
