Theatre troupe Padatik Natya Sangsad honoured its member mountaineer Ikramul Hasan Shakil, who had recently set three world records in a single expedition, at an event at the Bangladesh Mahila Samity in Dhaka on Friday.
A theatre activist Shakil became the youngest climber to conquer Mount Everest from sea level, covering the longest distance on foot in the shortest time — walking from Cox’s Bazar at sea level, crossing 1,400 kilometres, and reaching the summit of Everest in just 84 days.
The event also featured a discussion, a presentation of Shakil’s journey and cultural programme, including songs and drama. Â
Mountaineers Enam Ul Haque and MA Mohit, theatre directors Debashish Ghosh and Irin Parvin Lopa, among others, discuss at the event.
They said that there was no patronising for youth in this country but youth took risks and honoured the country.
Shakil said that he had experienced a lot during the expedition.
‘I had stayed on the top of the Everest for only 13 minutes. As a Bangladeshi flag and Padatik banner carrier, I want to dedicate my journey to all theatre activists of the country,’ said Shakil.
He also screened a multimedia presentation of his journey at the event.
