Ahmed Sofa Rashtroshova and Centre for Asian Arts and Cultures jointly organised Ahmed Sofa Memorial Lecture 2024 and a book launch event at Ramesh Chandra Majumdar Arts Auditorium at Dhaka University on Saturday.
Poet and film researcher Saikat Dey presented his article titled Ahmed Sofar Chalachitrayan at the event while writer professor Salimullah Khan鈥檚 book titled Aa Mori Ahmed Sofa was unveiled at the event to mark the 78th anniversary of the birth of the late prominent Bangladeshi poet, novelist, essayist and thinker Ahmed Sofa.
Works of Ahmed Sofa鈥檚 Editor Nurul Anwar, associate professor of visual arts at Columbia University Naeem Mohaiemen, writer Lutfa Hasin Rozi and professor Salimullah Khan spoke on the article at the event.
Presided over by poet Mohon Raihan the event was moderated by CAAC president Mohammad Zahirul Islam.
鈥楩ilming Ahmed Sofa鈥檚 story is not possible, because most of the time the filmmaker鈥檚 political ideology and philosophy cannot unite with the great writer鈥檚 uncompromising mentality. Film maker Abu Sayed directed a television production titled Onkar which was able to reach Ahmed Sofa鈥檚 poetry,鈥 said Saikat Dey.
The adaptation of Onkar titled Bangla directed by Shahidul Islam Khokon was a true film although it failed at the box office, added Saikat.
鈥楢nother film Alatchakra directed by Habibur Rahman also failed to portray the truth written by Ahmed Sofa in his novel,鈥 said Saikat Dey. 聽
Salimullah Khan said that the significance of many historical events changed with time.
鈥楧uring the July-August student-led mass uprising, the Chhatra League, Jubo League and police who were loyal to the Awami League used the slogan 鈥淛oy Bangla鈥 when they attacked the protesters while the freedom fighters fought in 1971 with the same slogan but with a different purpose,鈥 said Salimullah Khan.聽 聽
