The Russian House in Dhaka on Tuesday organised an event to celebrate the 210th anniversary of birth of poet Mikhail Yuryevich Lermontov.
Director of the house P Dvoychenkov said that Mikhail Lermontov, one of the most famous Russian poets, had a huge impact on poets and writers of the 19th and 20th centuries.
Lermontov lived only 27 years; 13 of which were devoted to creativity. His works combine acute social themes with philosophical motifs and personal experiences, added Dvoychenkov.
‘During this time, he created more than 400 poems, stories and novels about meaning of life, death, eternity about good and evil, about love, friendship, and nature.’
At the meeting, the guests also got acquainted with musical masterpieces based on the poet’s poem titled Waltz by A Khachaturian.
The story of the life of M Lermontov was accompanied by his piercing poems titled The Terrible Fate of Father and Son; Prayer; Motherland; Dream; Duma; and Death of the Poet.
As part of the event, a biographical documentary and feature film titled Lermontov, directed by Maxim Bespal, was screened at the event.
