
Four young writers and researchers received Kali o Kalam Tarun Kabi o Lekhak Puraskar 2023 at an awards ceremony held at the Bengal Shilpalay at Dhanmondi in the capital on Saturday.
The award recipients are Kamrunnahar Dipa, Farzana Haque, Sharfin Shah and Rahman Bornil.
Kamrunnahar Dipa received the award for her novel titled Vater Keccha in literature category, Farzana Haque for her book titled Farabari Hat Gonohotta Adarsha Bazar Gonohotta in Liberation War-based literature category, Sharfin Shah for his book titled Janasangskritir Rup o Rupantar in research category and Rahman Bornil for his novel titled Alloy Ranga Vor under children’s literature category.
Each of the winners received a crest, certificate and prize money of Tk 2 lakh.
Education and cultural affairs adviser to prime minister Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury was present as chief guest at the programme, which was presided over by Kali o Kalam editorial board president Professor Syed Manzoorul Islam.
The IFIC Bank managing director Shah A Sarwar, Kali o Kalam editorial board member Luva Nahid Choudhury, Kali o Kalam publisher Abul Khayer and its editor Suvrata Barua were present at the ceremony.
‘The award will inspire me to be a responsible writer,’ said Kamrun Nahar.
‘I am happy because my book has been selected for the award,’ said Sharfin Shah.
 ‘When I began my research for writing my book in Thakurgaon, I found a total of 44 killing grounds. I request the authorities concerned to take steps to preserve the grounds for the new generation,’ said Farzana Haque.
‘I never felt that I would win this award. This award has inspired me to further my career as a writer,’ said Rahman Barnil.
‘I hope that award-winning writers will not disappear and write regularly. I thank the IFIC Bank and the Bengal Foundation for inspiring writers through the award,’ said Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury.
Literature and culture-based monthly magazine Kali o Kalam introduced the award in 2008 to inspire young writers and poets.
The IFIC Bank and Kali o Kalam have been jointly organising the awards ceremony since 2020.
Fifty-eight young poets and writers have received the award to date.
Following the awards ceremony, renowned Tagore singer Rezwana Chowdhury Bannya performed at the venue.Â
Besides, a story-writing workshop titled ‘Galper Kalkabja’ was organised as part of the event on Friday.
