Members of the Indian Border Security Force on Saturday afternoon allegedly beat up two Bangladeshi youths and took away two cows after entering Bangladesh territory in the Rahmatpur Banshbari area in Lalmonirhat’s Patgram upazila along the border.
BSF members beat up bamboo trader Rashedul Islam, 30, and Joynal Hossain, 25, near S-5 sub-pillar of the main pillar 830 while they were cutting bamboos at about 12:30pm.
At that time, when villagers protested against the entry of BSF members, they allegedly took away two cows belonging to local farmers Jabed Ali and Shahabuddin while leaving.
A local person Selim Reza said, ‘The incident occurred over grazing of cows on the zero line.’
Local people said that the BSF members entered Bangladesh by violating the border law.
The residents of the border were in panic over the incident.
Border Guard Bangladesh-61 Teesta Battalion commanding officer Sheikh Muhammad Musahid Masum said, ‘They took away two cows and beat up two Bangladeshis.’
He also added that a flag meeting was called regarding the matter but the BSF did not respond yet.
