Leaders of different political parties on Saturday met with Pakistan’s deputy prime minister and foreign minister, Muhammad Ishaq Dar, during his two-day visit to Dhaka.

The meetings took place at the Pakistan High Commission in Gulshan.


A BNP delegation led by secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and accompanied by standing committee members Abdul Moyeen Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, and Selima Rahman held a meeting with the Pakistani minister.

Also present were BNP vice-chair Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, along with the party’s international affairs committee member Shama Obaid.

Earlier, in the afternoon, leaders of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami also held a meeting with Ishaq Dar at the High Commission, led by the party’s Naib-e-Amir Abdullah Muhammad Taher.

After the meeting, Abdullah Taher told reporters that they had discussed the issue of reactivating the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation in the meeting while the bilateral issues between Bangladesh and Pakistan would be resolved by the governments of two countries.

Jamaat secretary general Mia Golam Parwar and others were in the team.

In addition, a seven- member delegation from the National Citizen Party, led by its member secretary Akhter Hossen, met with the Pakistani minister.

Ishaq Dar arrived in Dhaka after 2:30pm on Saturday aboard a special flight at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, where he was welcomed by Bangladesh’s foreign secretary Asad Alam Siam.

During his stay, he is scheduled to hold meetings with chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, senior government officials, diplomatic representatives and leaders of various political parties.

Ishaq Dar is also expected to visit BNP chair Khaleda Zia at her residence to inquire about her health.

According to BNP media cell member Shairul Kabir Khan, the Pakistani minister will visit Khaleda Zia’s home on Sunday evening at around 7:30pm.
