Bangladesh’s ambassador to Greece Nahida Rahman Shumona met the Greek deputy minister of rural development and food Dionysis Stamenitis to discuss bilateral agricultural collaboration at his office in Athens on June 18, said a release.

Nahida Rahman briefed Greece’s deputy minister on the agricultural sector and its importance in the Bangladesh economy, paving the way for a high-level meeting to focus on expanding opportunities for agricultural cooperation between Bangladesh and Greece, building on the broader momentum of trade between Bangladesh and the European Union.

Discussions highlighted Bangladesh’s agricultural export profile, including important products such as frozen shrimp, fresh vegetables, aromatic rice and spices.

Nahida Rahman emphasised Bangladesh’s competitive advantage under the EU’s Everything But Arms initiative, which allows more than 90 per cent of Bangladeshi products to enter the European Union market duty- and quota-free.

Greece’s deputy minister explored practical avenues of collaboration, including joint ventures in food processing, sustainable farming technologies, and cold-chain logistics. The discussion also featured promoting market access for Bangladeshi agricultural goods tailored to Greek and Mediterranean consumer demand.

The two sides agreed to consider drafting a memorandum of understanding on agri-trade facilitation and expanding technical cooperation on sustainable farming.
