
Indian Border Security Force on Thursday pushed 105 more people into Bangladesh through different border points of six districts.
The districts are Cumilla, Feni, Panchagrah, Lalmonirhat, Moulvibazar and Khagrachari.
Border Guard Bangladesh and police officials said that the BSF pushed 39 people into Bangladesh through different border points in Feni, 20 through a single point in Lalmonirhat, and 21 through one point in Panchagrah.
They said that the BSF also pushed 13 people into Bangladesh through a bordering point in Cumilla, seven through one point in Moulvibazar and five through a single point in Khagrachari.
India began pushing people, including Rohingyas and Indian nationals, since May 7 when a war-like situation prevailed between India and Pakistan.
The number of people pushed into Bangladesh by India has crossed 500 since May 7 though the BGB and the police took tight security measures along the border with India.
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Feni reported that the BSF pushed 39 people into Bangladesh through different bordering points under Phulgazi and Chhagalnaiya upazilas.
Phulgazi police station officer-in-charge Mohammad Lutfor Rahman said that the BGB had handed over 27 people, who were pushed into Bangladesh, to them and they were now in police custody.
Chhagalnaiya police station officer-in-charge Nazrul Islam said that BGB had handed over 12 such people to them.
‘All are from Kurigram district,’ the OC added.
BGB Battalion-4 commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain said that they had detained 39 people, who were pushed into Bangladesh by the BSF, under Fulgazi and Chhagalnaiya upazilas.
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Cumilla reported that BSF pushed 13 more people, including three women and seven children, into Bangladesh through the Golabari bordering area under Panchthubi Union of Sadar Upazila in the district early Thursday.
BGB 10 Battalion commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Mir Ali Ejaz said that the BSF pushed them between 12:30am and 4:30am on Thursday.
‘All of them are Bangladesh nationals,’ he added.
Dhaka has already requested New Delhi to stop any such attempts to push people into Bangladesh territory through different bordering points.
While talking to reporters at the foreign ministry in Dhaka on Wednesday, foreign affairs adviser Md Touhid Hossain said that Indian nationals pushed into Bangladesh would be sent back to their country.
Touhid said that India had shared a list of individuals alleged to be Bangladesh nationals, which is currently under verification by the Bangladesh home ministry.
In Lalmonirhat, the BSF pushed 20 people into Bangladesh in the early hours of Thursday through the Dhabalsuti border under Patgram upazila, ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in the district reported.
BGB 61 Battalion’s Dhanlasuti border outpost commander nayek subedar Abdul Matin said that they had detained them and took them to the camp for primary interrogation.
‘They were later handed over to Patgram police,’ Abdul Matin added.
Patgram police OC Mizanur Rahman said the detainees had earlier entered India illegally in search of work. ‘We are yet to verify their identities and address,’ he said.
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Panchagrah reported that 21 people, including two women and 13 children, were pushed into Bangladesh through the Borobari border under Sadar upazila in the district early Thursday.
They entered India from Bangladesh at different times and Indian police detained them from Gujrat and took them to Kolkata by air on Wednesday, BGB officials, quoting the victims, said.
BGB officials said that the Indian police handed over 21 people to the BSF 93 Battalion near the Bangladesh border at about 2:00am on Thursday.
Nilphamari’s BGB 56 Battalion commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Badruddoza said that the Indian BSF pushed 21 people through the Borobari border.
‘Our team detained them as they were roaming around the bordering areas. We have already held a flag meeting with the BSF at Battalion, company and camp commander level. We also wanted to know from BSF why they entered them into Bangladesh illegally,’ he added.
In Moulvibazar, Indian BSF on Thursday pushed seven more people into Bangladesh through the Kulaura border in Moulvibazar district, ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· Staff Correspondent in Sylhet reported.
Local residents said that the BSF personnel pushed 7 people, including two men, two women and three children, amid heavy rain at about 8:00am through the Muraichhara bordering point under Kulaura upazila.
BGB 46 Battalion commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel ASM Zakaria said that the BGB detained the seven people immediately after they had entered into the Bangladesh territory.
Kulaura police station OC Md Golam Afsar said that the seven people were residents of Nageshwari upazila in Kurigram.
‘They had been working in a brick kiln in India for a long time,’ he said, quoting the detainees as saying.
In Khagrachari, the BSF pushed five people of a family, a man, his wife and their three children through the Ramgarh border along India in the district early Thursday, said Ramgrah upazila nirhabi officer Ismat Jahan Tuhin.
According to the BGB, it has detained 425 people from along bordering areas in districts including Khagrachari, Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Feni, Cumilla, Lalmonirhat, Kurigram, Thakurgaon and Panchagarh since May 7.
On May 9, the BSF and the Indian Navy allegedly pushed 78 people, including three Indian nationals, into Bangladesh through the Mandarbaria area under the Satkhira range of the Sunderbans West Forest Zone.
According to Bangladesh authorities, Bangladesh has 4,156 kilometers of border with India, of which some 180 kilometres fall on water bodies over various parts and 79 km through the Sundarbans.
