Indian foreign secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra on Wednesday evening arrived in Dhaka on a two-day visit to Bangladesh.
'The Indian Foreign Secretary arrived Dhaka today by a special flight in the evening for a short trip,’ Bangladesh foreign ministry said in a statement shared on social media X at 7:16pm.
It said that the Indian foreign secretary was expected to meet prime minister Sheikh Hasina and foreign minister Hasan Mahmud and hold meeting with his Bangladesh counterpart Masud Bin Momen on Thursday.
The purpose of his visit was to discuss issues for finalising the schedule of Sheikh Hasina’s upcoming visit to New Delhi and hand over prime minister Narendra Modi’s invitation letter to her, according to officials.
‘India is our next door neighbour. Various bilateral issues would be discussed during the scheduled visit of the Indian foreign secretary,’ foreign minister Hasan Mahmud told reporters at his office in Dhaka earlier on the day.
Prime minister Sheikh Hasina is likely to visit India in July, according to officials concerned in Dhaka.
This will be her first visit to the country after the January 7 general elections here.
