The 10-team Bangladesh Football League will resume on Sunday after a 22-day break, with three matches of the second round at different venues across the country.
Six-time champions Abahani Limited will face Brothers Union at the Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Cumilla while defending champions Mohammedan Sporting Club will take on Police Football Club at the Shaheed Barkat Stadium in Gazipur.Â
Rahmatganj Muslim Friends Society will play Fakirerpool Young Men’s Club in the other match of the day at the Shaheed Miraj-Tapan Stadium in Manikganj.
Five-time champions Bashundhara Kings, who will meet Fortis Football Club at the Kings Arena in the city on Monday, will be without their longstanding Finland-born defender Tariq Kazi.
Tariq ended his contract with Kings over unpaid wages on Friday, stating, ’Today, I have legally terminated my contract with Bashundhara Kings due to outstanding salary payments.’
Tariq, who joined Kings in 2019 and secured four league titles with them, has also represented the national team 33 times.
‘There are moments in a footballer’s life when silence becomes too heavy to carry. For over a year, I lived through a period of inconsistent and delayed salary payments - months of uncertainty that tested my strength both as a professional and as a person. It wasn’t only a financial challenge; it was an emotional burden that true professionals quietly endure,’ said the defender on his verified social media platform.
He also expressed gratitude to his team-mates, coaches Oscar Bruzon, Valeriu Tita, and Mario Gomez, as well as the supporters and the national team, for their unwavering support.
The defender has not yet disclosed his next destination to the media, but urged for greater transparency and fairness in Bangladeshi football, highlighting that many local players continue to suffer from similar financial neglect.
Soon after, Kings’ management responded with a statement on social media: ‘Today, Tariq Kazi and Bashundhara Kings parted ways after a successful six-year journey. The decision was made by Tariq, and we respect his choice.’
Meanwhile, in another match on Monday, the two promoted sides, Arambagh Krira Sangha and PWD Sports Club, will face each other at the Manikganj venue.
