
Bangladesh conceded a 2-0 defeat to India in their second match of the SAFF Under-17 Women’s Championship 2025 at the Changlimithang Stadium in Bhutan on Friday.
Mahbubur Rahman Litu’s charges conceded a goal in either half of the game to see them in second place behind India in the four-team table of the double-leg format competition.
Bangladesh began the tournament with a 3-1 win over hosts Bhutan in their first match, earned three points from two games, while India are on top with six points from as many matches. India crushed Nepal 7-0 in their first match.
In the day’s play, Bangladesh conceded the first goal in the 14th minute when keeper Yearzan Begum, despite getting her hands to the ball, could not stop India’s Pearl Fernandes left-footed drive from the box. Â
Bangladesh came close to return to the game in the 36th minute, but forward Alpi Akter, who scored a brace in the first game against Bhutan, headed the ball over the crosspiece following a corner by Fatema Akter from the left.
‘Today we did not play well. Our defenders and midfielders could not play properly…Hope we will comeback in the next game,’ said Litu at the post-match press conference.  Â
India’s super-sub player Bonfilia Shullai doubled the winning margin in the 76th minute by volleying the ball home on Alisha Lyngdoh›s corner.  Â
In their next games, Bangladesh will play Nepal on August 24 and 27. They will play Bhutan and India again in the other matches on August 29 and 31, respectively.
