Leicester City midfielder Hamza Choudhury has been included in the Bangladesh national football team’s camp for their two FIFA international friendly matches against Nepal, scheduled to be held in Kathmandu on September 6 and 9.
Spanish coach Javier Cabrera called up 24 players, including 10 players from Bashundhara Kings and five from Abahani Limited, for the camp. However, BFF is yet to announce the squad officially.
Although he is part of the preliminary squad, Hamza’s availability remains uncertain. The BFF is still in discussions with Leicester City.
While Canadian-based midfielder Shamit Shome will not feature in any of these matches due to his club commitments.
‘Hamza is in the coach’s 24-man preliminary squad. A letter has already been sent to his club, Leicester City. The federation is in talks with his club to bring him in for September,’ national team manager Amer Khan told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· on Thursday.
‘Shamit has club matches in September. That’s why he hasn’t been included in the preliminary squad,’ he added.
Shamit, who plays for Cavalry FC in the Canadian Premier League, is scheduled for club duties on September 6 and 14.
Despite the official start of the camp on Wednesday, only 10 players have reported so far, with five Abahani players joining on the second day. The players from Kings are yet to arrive.
Bangladesh will participate in these matches as part of their preparation for October’s two games against Hong Kong in the AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers.
In their Group C qualifiers, Bangladesh will face Hong Kong at home on October 9 before playing an away match on October 14.
