The JFA Under-14 Women’s Youth Football competition is scheduled to begin on Saturday at six zonal venues across the country with the participation of 42 district teams.
The competition, funded by the Japan Football Association, has been running under the Bangladesh Football Federation’s development programme since 2015 for scouting new football talents.
This year’s competition will be played in a double-leg format at the zonal phase at Magura, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Rangpur, Rangamati and Madaripur.
The six zonal champions and the two best second-place finishers will play in the final phase in Rajshahi, as the BFF women’s wing chief Mahfuza Akhter said in a press conference at the BFF House on Thursday.
‘It’s a talent hunt initiative to keep our players’ pipeline vibrant. Like before we did, this time also BFF officials will select potential players from this competition and later hold trials to select them for the age-group national camp,’ said Kiron.
‘This year it will be a double-leg format competition, instead of the previous knockout system, to ensure each team gets more playtime,’ she added.
Each team will receive Tk 45,000 as participation money, with the host district also receiving the same amount to run the tournament smoothly.
