Bangladesh women’s national football team has been placed in Pot 4 for the forthcoming AFC Women’s Asian Cup draw, scheduled to take place in Sydney on July 29.

The Asian Football Confederation stated on Tuesday that the 12 qualified nations would be divided into four pots based on FIFA rankings, with three teams in each pot.

A team from each pot will be selected to form three groups of four.

The 2026 edition of the continental championship will be played from March 1 to 21 across three Australian cities – Sydney, Perth, and Gold Coast.

Bangladesh made history by qualifying for the tournament for the first time, joining India and Iran in Pot 4.

Hosts Australia, Japan and North Korea form the top-seeded Pot 1. China, South Korea, and Vietnam are placed in Pot 2, while the Philippines, Chinese Taipei, and Uzbekistan are in Pot 3.

Bangladesh are expected to face a top contender from Pot 1 and Pot 2.

The most crucial match for Bangladesh will be against the Pot 3 team, as all the teams are ranked between 41 to 51.Ìý

Bangladesh will boost confidence as they have already beaten Myanmar (ranked 55th) by 2-1 goals in their recent qualifiers, which ensured their spot in the prestigious tournament.Ìý

The top two teams from each group, along with the two best third-placed teams will advance to the quarter-finals, which would earn a spot in the Olympic Games qualifiers in 2028 and if a team manage to reach semi-final they will directly qualify for FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2027.
