Defending champions Bangladesh will be looking to maintain their winning run in the SAFF Under-20 Women’s Championship when they take on Nepal at the Bashundhara Kings Arena in the city today.
The match will start at 7:00pm after the day’s first match between Bhutan and Sri Lanka at 3:00pm.
Bangladesh started their campaign with a 9-1 win over Sri Lanka, while Nepal beat Bhutan 6-1 in their first match.
Despite Bangladesh securing a resounding victory, with forward Sagorika netting a hat-trick, English coach Peter Butler was not fully satisfied with his team’s performance, as he felt there was a lack of clinical finishing.
‘I thought we could have been more clinical with our finishing. I just felt we were a little bit wasteful. I gave a few players opportunities to play. Some, in my opinion, did very well; some of the others maybe not as well,’ said Butler.
Bangladesh captain Afeida Khandaker vowed to replicate Butler’s instructions in the match against Nepal.
‘Coach will give us instructions after the video analysis this evening [Saturday], and we will replicate his instructions. As we have set our goal of winning this tournament, we will go to the pitch to win tomorrow [Sunday]’, Afeida told the media on Saturday.Â
With India opting not to participate in this tournament without providing a specific reason, Bangladesh and last year’s runners-up, Nepal, have emerged as the two leading contenders for the title in the four-team tournament.
In the championship, each team will play each other twice, and the top team will emerge as champions.
Bangladesh will play their next match against Bhutan on July 15 and 17 before facing Sri Lanka again on July 19 and Nepal on July 21.
