The Bangladesh Football Federation on Friday dismissed executive committee member Shakawat Hossain Bhuiya Shahin from his role in the national teams committee, just weeks after he publicly called for the resignation of national team coach Javier Cabrera.
‘I have received the letter signed by the president today (Friday). I have been relieved of my duties. But I don’t see this issue as a problem since I remain a member of the executive committee,’ Shahin told the media. Â
He defended his stance further, stating,’ But, I still believe that for the sake of Bangladesh football, Javier Cabrera should resign. This is something that many people also want.’Â
The member of the 12-man national teams committee, Shahin, demanded Cabrera’s resignation in the presence of BFF boss Tabith Awal in a media briefing on June 14. Â
’I want Cabrera’s termination, and that is my only agenda,’ Shahin demanded the resignation of Cabrera in the media briefing.
Shahin’s comments marked the first time a BFF official openly criticised Cabrera’s tactics, team selection, and substitutions—particularly following Bangladesh’s 2-1 defeat to Singapore in the AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers on June 10.
After the loss, Cabrera was criticised widely on social media by several fan group of Bangladesh football alongside former players, coaches and organisers.
