Member of the Bangladesh Football Federation executive committee and national team committee, Shakawat Hossain Bhuiyan Shahin, demanded the termination of national team coach Javier Cabrera during a media briefing at the city鈥檚 RAOWA Complex on Saturday.
Shahin was supposed to discuss BFF鈥檚 internal audit and its relationship with the government at the press conference, which was organised to address its activities and future work plans for the next six months. 听
Instead, he demanded Cabrera鈥檚 resignation in front of the other BFF members, along with BFF boss Tabith Awal, stating, 鈥業 want Cabrera鈥檚 termination, and that is my only agenda.鈥� 听
鈥楢udit is not on my agenda. My only agenda is the national team. As a member of the national team's committee, I want the resignation of national team coach [Javier] Cabrera. I want to make 18 crore people of Bangladesh smile,鈥� he added.
This was the first time a BFF insider raised this kind of demand over Cabrera鈥檚 best eleven selection, his strategy, substitutions and system of play, particularly following the recent 2-1 loss to Singapore in the AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers. 听
After the loss against Singapore, Cabrera was widely criticised on social media by fans, as well as by former players, coaches, and organisers.
In response to Shahin鈥檚 demand, Tabith addressed the matter, 鈥榃e will discuss the issue further among ourselves. Coach鈥檚 performances will be reviewed, and we will make a decision if any action needs to be taken,鈥� said Tabith. 听
Under Cabrera, Bangladesh have played 32 matches, registering nine wins, seven draws, and 16 defeats since the Spaniard took charge on January 8, 2022.听
