The Bangladesh national women’s football team jumped five steps up to grab the 128th position in the latest FIFA rankings, published on Thursday.
This has been their biggest stride since October 13, 2022, when Bangladesh climbed seven spots – 140th from 147th.Â
Furthermore, this marks their best position in six years, having last been ranked 127th in March 2019.
This progress followed consecutive draws against the higher-ranked Indonesia and the hosts, Jordan, during the tri-nation FIFA friendly series.
Bangladesh forced the 95th-ranked Indonesia to a goalless draw before securing a 2-2 comeback draw against the 75th-ranked Jordan on May 31 and June 4, respectively.
This improvement will be a significant boost for Bangladesh ahead of their AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers in Myanmar from June 29 to July 5.
While Bangladesh made progress, the other South Asian nations—India (70th), Nepal (100th), and Sri Lanka (159th)—each slipped one position from their previous rankings.
Bhutan (171st), Pakistan (159th), and the Maldives (163rd) remained unchanged.
Bangladesh will face Bahrain, hosts Myanmar, and Turkmenistan in their Group C campaign of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers on June 29, July 2, and 5, respectively.
