
Bangladesh failed to retain the title of the SAFF Under-19 Championship as they lost to India in the final 4-3 on penalties at the Golden Jubilee Stadium in Arunachal Pradesh on Sunday.
After the regulation time ended 1-1, the match went straight into penalties.
Bangladesh keeper Ismail Hossain Mahin denied India鈥檚 second penalty shot taken by Rohen Singh Chaphamayum. However, captain Nazmul Huda Faysal sent the ball over the crossbar before Salah Uddin Sahed had his final attempt blocked by the keeper.
India鈥檚 Shami Singamayum took the crucial penalty and executed it flawlessly, tricking the goalkeeper and placing the ball into the net to seal the victory.
Earlier, captain Singamayum Shami gave India the lead with a stunning strike in the very second minute of the game.
Bangladesh forward Sumon Soren fouled Indian forward Rohen Singh Chaphamayum on the right flank, prompting the referee to call for a free kick. Shami lobbed the ball over Bangladesh keeper Ismail Hossain Mahin from almost 40 yards out. 听
Bangladesh equalised in the 61st minute when super-sub Joy Ahmed鈥檚 left-footed drive from the goalmouth found the net, following a corner from Faysal.
India continued to apply pressure, but Bangladesh made a strong comeback in the second half, finding success 16 minutes after the break.
Ismail made at least five crucial saves throughout the match, while defender Mithun Chowdhury helped Bangladesh survive a scare at the goal line during five minutes of stoppage time.
