The Bangladesh Football Federation decided not to run the Independence Cup and Super Cup in the following season due to the uncertainty of all club participation caused by financial crisis.
‘We made changes to the competition calendar. Previously, there were five competitions; now, we have decided to operate three: the Bangladesh Premier League, the Federation Cup, and the Challenge Cup,’ said Imrul Hasan, chairman of the BFF professional league management committee, following a meeting on Monday.
The meeting also decided to allow each team to register 40 players, including foreigners, for the 2024-2025 season, rather than the previous season’s limit of 36.
Imrul, who is also the BFF vice-president, announced that the upcoming season, which was set to begin in mid-September, will now be delayed for a few days.
The doubt surrounding all club’s participation began when the three BPL clubs - Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra, Chittagong Abahani, and Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club - declared a financial issue in forming squads shortly after the political turbulence that deposed the Awami League-led administration on August 5.
