Bangladesh will be looking to make a winning start when they take on Sri Lanka in their opening match of Group A of the SAFF Under-20 Championship 2024 at the ANFA Complex in Lalitpur, Nepal today.

The match between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will kick-off at 3:15pm Bangladesh Standard Time.

In the tournament opener of the seventh edition of the tournament on Sunday, Sri Lanka suffered a 0-1 defeat to hosts Nepal, while defending champions India beat Bhutan by a solitary goal in the Group B opener on Monday.

Bangladesh coach Maruful Haque, who watched the game between Sri Lanka and Nepal, said that he has studied the strengths and weaknesses of their today’s opponents.

‘We want to make a winning start. We watched Sri Lanka’s match [against Nepal], analysed their strong and weak points. And we worked on our game plan accordingly,’ Maruful told the media after a training session on Monday.

When asked about their goal, Maruful replied, ‘I have seen their hard work, passion, and commitment. So, our goal is to play in the final and win the trophy, just like we promised before travelling for Nepal.’

Bangladesh battled toe-to-toe against India in the 2022 final, as they eventually lost by 5-2 goals in extra-time after the stipulated time ended in 2-2.
