Bangladesh national women’s football team came from two goals down to beat hosts Bhutan 4-2 in their second and final match of the FIFA international friendly series at the Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu on Saturday.
With Saturday’s win, Bangladesh clinched the series 2-0 after winning the first match by 5-1 goals on Wednesday.
The hosts took a 2-0 lead inside the 22 minutes of the game, with forward Lhazom Deki scoring both goals, but Bangladesh were level before the break.
Substitute midfielder Ritu Porna Chakma scored a brace, while forward Mst Sagorika and captain Sabina Khatun scored once each for Bangladesh.
Lhazom gave Bhutan the lead in the 15th minute before she extended the margin with her second of the day seven minutes later.
Bangladesh turned it around when forward Sabina and first game’s hat-trick star Sagorika scored in the 35th and 40th minutes, respectively.
Ritu, who replaced forward Sanjida Akhter in the 61st minute, made it 3-2 for the visitors by scoring in the very next minute before she scored her second and Bangladesh’s fourth four minutes from the stipulated time.
Bangladesh (140), who are 33 places ahead of Bhutan (173) in the current FIFA women’s rankings, and holders of the SAFF Women’s Championship, took part in the friendlies as part of their preparation for October’s SAFF to be held in Nepal.
