Internationally acclaimed film ‘Barir Naam Shahana’, directed by Leesa Gazi, and Bangladesh-Iran joint venture film ‘Fereshte’, directed by acclaimed Iranian director Morteza Atashzamzam, will be released in cinemas across Bangladesh today.

‘Barir Naam Shahana’ is based on the true story of a woman who grew up in a rural conservative society in the ‘90s in Bangladesh.

In the film, Dipa’s family forces her to marry a widower in England through a trunk-call wedding ceremony. Once alone in a foreign land, Dipa encounters unimaginable challenges, yet she refuses to give up on her dreams.

Aanon Siddiqua played the character of Dipa, while other characters in the film were played by Lutfur Rahman George, Iresh Zaker, Kazi Ruma, Naila Azad and Jayanto Chattopadhyay, among others.

Leesa Gazi said that as a divorcee in Bangladesh in the ‘90s, she faced enormous social stigma and observed how divorced women were treated as outcasts by their own families and society.

‘Dipa is one such woman who does not accept what is decided for her by others and fights back. Dipa’s story emerges from actual events. It is not an unhappy story. Instead, it is a triumphant one,’ said Leesa Gazi, adding that the film will be released at the Basundhara City Shopping Mall, Sony Square and Centre Point branches of Star Cineplex.

Besides, the film will be released at Lion Cinemas, Blockbuster Cinemas, Magic Movie Theatre, CineScope in Narayanganj, Grand River View Cineplex in Rajshahi and Momo Inn Movie Theatre in Bogura.

Actress Jaya Ahsan-starrer film Fereshte will be released at Star Cineplex branches at Bashundhara City Shopping Mall, Sony Square and Centrepoint, Blockbuster Cinemas at Jamuna Future Park and Lion Cinemas in Dhaka and Star Cineplex at Bali Arcade in Chattogram.

The film, jointly written by Mumit Al-Rashid of Bangladesh and Morteza Atashzamzam, stars Reekita Nondine Shimu, Shahiduzzaman Selim, Shahed Ali, Shaheen Mridha and child artiste Sathi in different roles.
