Six new Bangladeshi films are set to be released for cinemas on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, one of the largest religious festivals of the Muslims to be celebrated in the country on June 7.

According to a Film Certification Board member on Wednesday, six films received no objection for screening at cinemas.

Raihan Rafi-directed film Taandob, Alok Hasan-directed film Togor, Mithu Khan-directed film NeelChokrom, Tanim Noor-directed film Utshob, Sunny Sanwar-directed film Esha Murder: Karmaphal and Sanjoy Somadder-directed film Insaaf have been approved for only adult audiences.

Bangladesh Film Exhibitors’ Association senior vice-president Mia Alauddin said that the hall distribution of the Eid films would be confirmed today.

‘These films received certificates on the last day of office before the 10-day Eid holiday. On Thursday (today), we can provide the final hall distribution list,’ said Alauddin.

Star Cineplex media and marketing manager Mesbah Uddin Ahmed confirmed that they would be screening six films at their different branches during the Eid holidays.

Single screen Madhumita Cinema Hall owner Iftekhar Uddin Nawshad said that they did not confirm any films yet because producers demanded high sharing rates on sales.

‘We have discussed many films but have not selected any one due to producers demanding high rates on gross sales, which are not profitable for big cinemas like Madhumita,’ Nawshad said, adding that they could go back to screening foreign films due to high demand by local producers.
