Cinema halls owners and managers on Tuesday said that due to the ongoing curfew, they were suffering financially and hoped that the government would revoke the restrictions as soon as possible.
They said that they could not open cinema halls amid the curfew and general holidays, turning a loss for their businesses.
Media and marketing manager of Star Cineplex Mesbah Uddin Ahmed said that they stopped film screening since Thursday due to lack of spectators amid students’ anti-quota movement.
‘All branches of Star Cineplex have been closed since Saturday, after the government imposed countrywide curfew. Although sabotage during the students’ movement doesn’t damage the cinema hall physically, its aftermath creates financial loss for the industry,’ he said.
‘Toofan film was running successfully, as people started to visit cinema hall after a long time. We hope the curfew will not cut the flow of Toofan and spectators will visit halls to enjoy ongoing movies after revoking the restrictions,’ Mesbah added.
Owner of Madhumita Cinema Iftekhar Uddin Nawshad said that lack of good films like Priyotoma or Toofan, single screen cinema halls were suffering a lot.
‘We wanted to run Toofan in next two or three months in a row but forced to stop screening since Friday for unstable situation of the country,’ he added.Â
Nawshad urged the government to restore the internet services to make communications and businesses alive and revoke the curfew to normalise the environment of the country.
Lion Cinema’s operation manager Asib-ur-Rahman hoped that the situation of the country would be normal soon.
‘If the situation is abnormal, we will not have movie-goers and subsequently it will affect our industry,’ he added.
