The first Dhaka DocImpact Lab concluded at Bengal Shilpalay in Dhanmondi, Dhaka on Sunday.

The DDIL is an initiative of Dhaka DocLab designed to empower documentary filmmakers from South Asia.


The first edition of the DDIL featured a three-day workshop.

Six upcoming documentary films directed by young Bangladeshi filmmakers, including ‘Wating for Winter’ by Farid Ahmed, ‘Doprujhiri’ by Asma Beethe, ‘Embracing Fatherhood’ by Partha Sarathi Sen Gupta, ‘Aanda Story’ by Md Shakawat Hossen, ‘Pankauri’ by Jafar Muhammad and ‘Songs of Sunflower’ by Abid Sarker Shohag participated in the event.

At the closing ceremony, filmmakers talked about their projects.

‘The film titled Doprujhiri revolves around a waterfall known as Doprujhiri situated near a village with the same name in Chittagong Hill Tracts. The Mro people collect fresh water from it. The film explores the impact of human-caused environmental changes on the people of the village,’ said filmmaker Asma Beethe.

‘The film titled Pankauri depicts river dispute between two neighbouring countries. The film depicts the life of an old stone collector who works at the River Karatoa,’ said Jafar Muhammad.

The participating filmmakers were awarded certificates at the closing ceremony of Dhaka DocImpact Lab.

Dhaka DocLab director Tareq Ahmed, Dhaka Doclab trustee board member Luva Nahid Chowdhury and Dhaka DocImpact Lab director Rahi Hasan distributed certificates among the participants and observers.
