The authorities of Islamic University in Kushtia will celebrate its 47th University Day on the campus today, officials of registrar鈥檚 office said on Friday.
The daylong celebration includes hoisting of the national and university flags, a colourful procession, a discussion programme and cultural event.
Marking the day, vice-chancellor professor Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah will hoist the national flag while pro-vice-chancellor professor M Yeaqub Ali will hoist the university flag in front of the university鈥檚 administration building at about 10:30am.
The vice-chancellor will inaugurate the programmes by releasing pigeons at about 11:00am.
Later, the university鈥檚 teachers, officials, students and staff will bring out a colourful procession led by the vice-chancellor on campus, proceeding to the foundation stone laid by martyred President Ziaur Rahman, where they will place a floral tribute.
The procession later will end in front of Birsreshtha Hamidur Rahman auditorium after parading main streets of the campus.
After that, a cake cutting ceremony, discussion and cultural programmes will be held.
The university started its journey on November 22, 1979, at Gazipur, on a campus presently used by the National University.
