The University Grants Commission of Bangladesh in a statement on Thursday issued a caution against admissions to three fake universities in the country.
The universities are America World University, US; Trinity University, US; and Spiritual Institute of New York, said a UGC press release.
The UGC said that no such university had been approved by the government or the commission.
Recently, Bangladesh Commerce Bank Limited applied to the UGC to verify the credentials of two students from America World University and Trinity University. During the verification, the UGC came to know about the activities of the fake university branches.
The press release also mentioned that according to the list of universities proposed by the UGC sent by the ministry, no project proposal was received in the name of the universities.
As many students are being cheated by these scams, the UGC has recently written to the home ministry, education ministry and the Anti-Corruption Commission to take effective action against these universities.
