
The Secondary School Certificate and its equivalent examinations began on Thursday across the country while a total of 26,928 candidates were absent and 22 candidates were expelled on the first day.
The education ministry adviser professor CR Abrar on the day said that they would try their best to publish the exam results within two months.

On the first day, examinations were held on Bangla (compulsory) first paper and Easy Bangla first paper subjects under the nine general boards, Quran Majid and Tazvid subject under the madrassah board and Bangla (2) subject under the technical board.
Under the nine general boards 14,738 were absent out of 13,34,630 candidates on the first day while out of total 2,61,912 candidates under Bangladesh Madrassah Board 9,623 were absent.
Out of total 1,31,236 candidates 2,567 were absent under Bangladesh Technical Education Board on Thursday.Â
In Feni a mobile court sentenced a hall invigilator to two years in prison for giving answers to a candidate and the candidate had been expelled from the exam on the day.
In the capital the candidates and their guardians were seen going to the exam centres in the morning.
Many guardians were seen waiting in the adjacent areas of the exam centres during the exams.
The adviser went to Motijheel Government Boys’ High School to visit the exam centre.
After the visit, he told the journalists that they considered checking question paper leaks as a top priority. Â
He mentioned that they had tried to check the sources from where earlier question papers had been leaked.
‘We are hopeful that we will be successful in preventing question paper leaks,’ CR Abrar continued, urged all to refrain from spreading rumour on question paper leaks on social media.
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Feni reported that Feni Sadar upazila nirbahi officer and executive magistrate Sultana Nasreen Kanta sentenced hall invigilator Md Yunus to two years in prison for providing a written answer sheet to a candidate at the Feni Alia Kamil Madrassah centre during the exam.
Yunus is an ICT subject teacher at Motbi Adarsha High School in Feni Sadar upazila.
Sultana Nasreen said that she found during her visit that Yunus was providing written answer to a student.
The student, Hafizur Rahman a candidate from Feni Birinci Sufia Nuriya Madrassah, was also expelled from the exam, she added.
The theoretical part of the examinations will be concluded on May 13 after which the practical part of the examinations will be held between May 15 and 22.
This year the examinations are being held on full syllabus, on all subjects and full number with the duration of each exam three hours from 10:00am to 1:00pm.
The ministry has formed nine vigilance teams to monitor the exams and take legal action in cases of any violation of the laws, including question paper leaks. Â
All coaching centres across Bangladesh will remain closed during the examinations to check question leaks, said education ministry officials.
This year 19,28,181 examinees are taking the SSC and the equivalent examinations.
This is the first public examination under the present interim government.
