Students of Rajshahi University’s mass communication and journalism department on Tuesday staged demonstrations demanding taking immediate measures for holding the postponed examinations.

About two hundred of them locked the department office and staged a sit-in there at about 9:00am to press home their demand.

Addressing the sit-in, the agitating students alleged that the department authorities did not take any initiative to hold the stalled second-year’s second-semester examinations, and to arrange the semester final examinations of other years despite repeated requests.

Kamruzzaman Fahad, one of the agitating students, said that their second-year’s second semester examinations were postponed due to student protests in July.

‘We have been demanding the department authorities to hold the postponed examinations since past month, but the latter are not paying any heed to our demand,’ he said.

Insan Ali, a second-year’s first semester student, said that according to the academic calendar, a semester must be completed within six months since the commencement of classes.

‘Almost ten months have elapsed since the class of the second-year’s first semester began. But, no decision of arranging our semester final examination has been taken yet,’ he added.

The agitating students also urged the department authorities to resume the second-year’s second semester examinations, postponed for the student protests in July, immediately and to arrange the examinations of other semesters soon.

They also urged the authorities to complete the classes and examinations within four months to eradicate the ongoing session jam.

Later, the agitating students postponed their sit-in after vice-chancellor professor Saleh Hasan Naqib had assured them of meeting their demands.

Contacted, MCJ department chair professor Md Mozammel Hossain Bakul told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that they agreed to meet the students’ demands as all of them were logical.
