The National Board of Revenue has recovered a total of Tk 994 crore in the past nine months (September 2024 to May 2025) through a series of tax and revenue evasion investigations and drives.

According to a statement issued by the NBR on Tuesday, a total of 16,572 operations were carried out during this period, uncovering tax evasion cases involving approximately Tk 6,246 crore.


Among the drives, customs houses conducted 2,215 operations and uncovered Tk 183 crore in evaded revenue, with the entire amount fully recovered.

Customs, excise, and VAT commissionerates carried out 6,803 operations, detecting Tk 513 crore in evaded revenue, from which Tk 89 crore was recovered.

The VAT audit, intelligence and investigation directorate (Dhaka) conducted 231 investigations, revealing Tk 1,639 crore in tax evasion and recovered Tk 240 crore.

Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate recovered Tk 73 crore.

Central Intelligence Cell uncovered Tk 366 crore in evaded income taxes in 181 operations, recovering Tk 194 crore.

Income Tax Intelligence and Investigation Unit identified tax evasion of Tk 1,874 crore through 170 operations, of which Tk 110 crore was collected.

Moreover, 41 income tax zones conducted 6,972 operations, revealing evasion of Tk 1,588 crore, with Tk 105 crore collected so far.

NBR officials stated that this robust enforcement drive was part of the board’s continuous effort to enhance domestic resource mobilisation and contribute to national development.

They also stated that operations will continue with increased vigilance and technological support to curb tax evasion further and enhance overall compliance.
