Private investors in a seminar on Tuesday demanded speedy implementation of the National Logistic Policy-2024 while senior government officials suggested that the businesses should bring foreign direct investment to supply chain management.

The private investors also demanded establishment of a ministry for logistics during the seminar arranged by the Foreign Investors’ Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the capital.


They also highlighted how the much needed logistic supports could bring down the cost of doing business and foster exports ahead of the country’s graduation from the least developed countries’ block in 2026.

In April, the National Logistic Policy-2024 was approved by the cabinet with the aim of achieving sustainable and desired economic progress of Bangladesh.

Principal secretary Mohammad Tofazzel Hossain Miah of the Prime Minister’s Office while speaking at the seminar as chief guest acknowledged problems raised by the private investors regarding logistic for doing businesses.

Calling the logistic multidimensional issues, he called upon the investors to bring foreign direct investment to supply chain management.

He also called upon the businesses to come up with ideas for address problems while seeking information technology based solution for tacking cars.

Shahida Sultana, member secretary of the National Logistics Development and Coordination Committee, said that the implementation of the policy would take time.

The policy identified 64 reforms, said the member secretary while taking part in the panel discussant moderated by chairman of Policy Exchange Bangladesh Masroor Reaz and was participated by Syed Ershad Ahmed, country manager of Expeditors (Bangladesh) Ltd and president of AmCham, Abul Kasem Khan, former president of DCCI Nikhil D’Lima, managing director of Maersk Bangladesh.

Chattogram Port Authority chairman Rear Admiral Mohammad Sohail expected that the country’s main sea port would transform in the next few years with the establishment of the proposed Bay Terminal.

Former Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka president Nihad Kabir highlighted the National Logistics Policy-2024 as a catalyst for private investment in vital areas like ports and railways while presenting the key note.

FICCI president Zaved Akhtar expressed gratitude to the government for originating the National Logistics Policy but stressed the need for establishment of a ministry for logistics.
