A Bangladeshi director of a company with a Datuk title was detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission on Monday over an application for migrant worker quotas for a non-existent project, reported Malaysian news agency FMT on Tuesday.

A source in the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission said the suspect, in his 40s, had submitted two quota applications involving a total of 600 workers for a non-existent project.

‘The two applications involved payment of about RM 4,60,000 and RM 6,50,000 in levies,’ the source said.

The man was arrested at about 9:00pm on Monday after having his statement recorded at the Selangor MACC office.

He was placed on a five-day remand till November 17.

The source said that the suspect was believed to have applied for the quotas sometime in 2023.

Meanwhile, Selangor MACC director Alias Salim confirmed the arrest when contacted.
