Three companies, including the owner of the franchise Khulna Tigers, were snubbed by the Bangladesh Cricket Board in the first stage of the Bangladesh Premier League franchise selection process, stated the member secretary of the BPL Governing Council Iftekhar Rahman on Sunday.Â
The BCB also said that SQ Sports’ [owner of Chittagong Kings] injunction against BCB has been stayed by the Appellate Division, allowing the board to award the franchise to any company that meets the terms and conditions.
In a BPL governing council meeting held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Sunday, 11 Expressions of Interest were reviewed by the legal division of the BCB, a consulting firm, and a chartered accountant firm.Â
‘These three companies—SQ Sports (Chattogram Kings), Banglamark Limited (Noakhali), and the Mind Tree consortium (Khulna)—failed to meet mandatory requirements, including the pay order of 2 crore taka and submission of key company documents,’ Iftekhar told the reporters.
The final list of eligible companies would be announced on November 4, said Iftekhar.Â
‘We have now shortlisted from 11 to 8. The process is ongoing, and further disqualifications may occur. We will not award any team by force,’ he said.
‘The board is prioritising timely player payments, anti-corruption, and integrity. Only companies meeting these standards will be granted five-year franchise contracts,’ he added.Â
A board meeting is scheduled to be held today where the BPL franchise selection and the first-ever Bangladesh Cricket Conference will be on the agenda.
