The Dhaka First Division Cricket League is set to begin in November amid the call for boycotting by a number of clubs, said the chairman of the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis, Adnan Rahman, on Wednesday.

‘We had a meeting with the First Division team’s today. Virtually all the clubs were present, and none of them said they wouldn’t play,’ Adnan told reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Wednesday after a meeting was held at the BCB premises.

‘Everyone said they were keen to play this season, though there were some minor differences regarding the timing. The good news is that they are very much interested, and we’ll soon announce the dates for the transfer and the start of the league,’ he added.

Sixteen of the 20 First Division clubs were present at the meeting, while it was learnt that the remaining four clubs also expressed their willingness to participate.

The CCDM also plans to run multiple leagues simultaneously.

‘The First Division, Second Division, and Third Division leagues will run concurrently,’ said Adnan.

‘We can’t include the Premier Division right now because of the BPL, national team commitments, and the National Cricket League. [But] we’ll try to find a gap in the schedule to start the Premier League within that window,’ he added.

The First Division League, which was deferred from October 1 due to the BCB election, became uncertain as some clubs declared that they would not take part in any domestic league under the newly elected board of the BCB.

They announced that they didn’t recognise the recently concluded Bangladesh Cricket Board election and dubbed the current president, Aminul Islam, ‘illegal’.
