The Cricketers’ Welfare Association of Bangladesh president Mohammad Mithun said on Saturday that they would meet the club officials who earlier announced boycotting the domestic leagues.Â
‘We were trying to sit with the club organisers for a while. Finally, they agreed to meet with us tomorrow [today],’ said Mithun.Â
Some Dhaka-based cricket organisers earlier announced that they would not participate in any league after refusing to acknowledge the recently concluded BCB election.Â
They also shut down the proposals from the newly elected president of the BCB, Aminul Islam, that the ‘doors were always open for dialogue’.Â
However, the BCB then responded with their reaffirmation that the leagues would go on as per the schedule.Â
The governing body said that the interests and welfare of the players remained the highest priorities and primary focus of both the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis and the BCB.Â
Several councillors from various clubs and district associations withdrew their nominations from the BCB election, where Aminul was re-elected president, citing interventions and other reasons.Â
Former national team captain Tamim Iqbal was also among those candidates. The club officials earlier dubbed Aminul ‘an illegal president’.Â
The Dhaka Third Division Cricket League has already been delayed due to the BCB election process. The schedule is yet to be published.Â
