The election commission of the upcoming BCB board of directors’ election published the draft voters list on Tueday, a day after the original scheduled date.

Before that, a revised schedule was announced for the election without giving any explanation.

The voting for the anticipated election will be on October 6.

Aminul Islam, the current president of the BCB, will represent the Dhaka Divisional Sports Associations, while Tamim Iqbal will represent the first division club Old DOHS.

These two are being thought of as the frontrunners for becoming the next board president, who will be elected by the votes of the 25 elected directors.

In category one, 71 councillors will cast their votes representing the divisional and district sports associations, according to the draft list.

Category two was supposed to have 76 councillors from the Dhaka-based clubs of the Premier League, First, Second, and Third divisions.

However, the election commission decided to snub 15 clubs—including Gulshan Cricket Club, who played in the last season of the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League—due to an investigation run by the Anti-Corruption Unit despite the BCB earlier mentioning that those clubs didn’t have any problem nominating councillors.

It was learnt that Iftekhar Rahman, the chairman of the media committee of the current board, was supposed to represent one of those clubs.

The election commission said that they took the decision upon thinking of the ‘bright future of the country’s cricket’ and ‘greater national interest.’

Faruque Ahmed, the previous board president, is among the councillors in the draft list representing a third division club.

However, the election commission noted that Faruque’s nomination was received at 8:30pm on Monday, two and a half hours later than the scheduled deadline.

Category three has 45 councillors representing various organisations, public universities, education boards, sports bodies, and former cricketers and captains.

According to the revised schedule, any objection to the draft voters list would be taken between 10:00am and 5:00pm today.

The draft list was scheduled to be published on September 22 at 7:00pm on the BCB website, with 6:00pm as the deadline for accepting councillors, according to the previous schedule.

But after a writ petition was filed in the High Court challenging the legality of the BCB president’s September 18 letter to the ministry of youth and sports, the scheduled board meeting was delayed by around two and a half hours.

Later, the Appellate Division on Monday cleared the way for the Bangladesh Cricket Board to hold its forthcoming election using councillor nominations solely from ad-hoc committees.

Justice Farah Mahbub, chamber judge of the Appellate Division, stayed a High Court order that had earlier halted the BCB president’s directive.

However, Mahin Rahman, the legal advisor of the BCB, said that a further hearing would be held in the Chamber Judges’ Court on the matter on September 28.

The board meeting, which was the last of the current board, eventually concluded close to 11:00pm on Monday, but the voters’ list had still not been released.
