Bangladesh head coach Phil Simmons believes that they have the capacity and confidence to defeat India in their second Super Four match of the Asia Cup in Dubai on Wednesday.

The match is scheduled to begin at 8:30pm, and T Sports and Nagorik TV will telecast it live, while it can be watched on Toffee and Tapmad online.

Bangladesh will enter into the encounter on the back of their 4-wicket win against Sri Lanka, while India are yet to be beaten in the tournament.

On paper, India, who have beaten Pakistan in their Super Four opener, are firm favourites to win the game, but for Simmons, any team can beat anyone on a given day in cricket.

‘Every team has the ability to beat India. The game is played on the day. It’s not what India has done before. It’s what happens on Wednesday. It’s what happens during that three-and-a-half-hour period,’ said the former West Indies all-rounder.

‘We will try to play as best as we can and hope to force mistakes in India’s armoury. That’s the way we win games,’ he added.

Simmons also mentioned that there was no shortage of belief. He also gave a brief idea on how they want to take on the defending world champions.

He said, ‘Well, there has to be belief. And as far as we have sat down today and spoken about things, there’s a lot of belief that we have that chance.’

‘And if we get the break in the game, then we have to hold on to the break. We have to take the chances, and we have an opportunity to win a game against India,’ he added.

After losing to Sri Lanka in the group stage, Bangladesh had a great outing against the same opposition in their first match in the Super Four.

And how Pakistan’s tournament so far has progressed, Bangladesh are thought to be a strong candidate to reach the final.

Simmons also said that they were there to ‘win the tournament’ but also reminded them that there was still a long way to go.

‘We still have two games to play,’ he said. ‘We still have two very strong teams. So we have to play cricket. All I’m worried about now is India on Wednesday night.’

‘And then after that game is finished, we think about Pakistan. And after that, then you can think about the final. Right now, we’re thinking about India,’ he added.

Teams batting second have won five out of seven games in Dubai so far. India have also won three of their four games while chasing.

But Simmons doesn’t want to give the toss that much importance.

He said, ‘I didn’t see much of a difference in the wicket over the 40 overs. I think they’re some of the best wickets I’ve seen here for a while. I don’t think the toss has that much of an effect.’

The Liton Das-led team will have to overcome the challenge of playing two games on consecutive days. Simmons didn’t hide the fact that it was going to be difficult for his team.

‘It is extremely difficult to play back-to-back T20 matches, back-to-back ODIs. So it’s not a nice thing, but again, we are prepared; we have trained really hard,’ he said.

‘And I think the guys are fit enough to handle the back-to-back game. But it is not a fair thing for any team to have to play back-to-back T20s. It’s a lot more difficult than people seem to think,’ he added.
