Bangladesh captain Liton Das said on Tuesday that history was meant to be broken as they would try their best to go all the way in the Asia Cup 2025 following their heartache in three finals in the past.Ìý

The tournament commenced with the match between Afghanistan and the UAE on Tuesday. However, Liton & co will begin their campaign against Hong Kong at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Thursday.

‘We became runners-up on several occasions but didn’t get the taste of the championship,’ Liton said in the captains’ press conference in Dubai.Ìý

Now Liton wants to break that shackle.Ìý

‘The past is history now; history is meant to be broken,’ he said. ‘We will try to play well. That will be a challenge; it won’t be easy. We will try to improve as a team,’ he added.Ìý

Bangladesh has had good preparation ahead of the marquee event. They have had a long fitness and skill camp before playing a three-match series against the Netherlands.Ìý

The win over the Netherlands marked their third consecutive series win, as they beat Sri Lanka and Pakistan earlier.Ìý

‘We have played three series recently and played well. Every player is excited. Every team is good in the Asia Cup; we have to give our best. The main challenge is that we have got to give our hundred per cent to win matches,’ said Liton.Ìý

After the Netherlands series, Liton said that they were well-prepared. The Bangladesh captain repeated that while being asked if they had any added motivation.Ìý

He said, ‘There is no such thing as showing the world something. We have played good cricket recently; we did a camp. We are well prepared for the Asia Cup.’

‘Each team is good here. The games will be challenging. But we are looking forward to embracing the challenges. We will try to give our hundred per cent,’ he added.Ìý

Bangladesh will play all three of their group matches in Abu Dhabi, with the matches against Sri Lanka and Afghanistan scheduled on September 13 and 16, respectively.Ìý
