The Bangladesh national cricket team has received a lengthy break following their T20I series against Pakistan, which concluded last Thursday.
They were supposed to be busy with a white ball series against India next month, but that had been deferred by one year.
That created a rare and, in many senses, a welcoming window for the Tigers, as they had been busy with relentless cricket.
Before the Pakistan series, they played an all-format away series against Sri Lanka. Their next assignment is the Asia Cup, which will begin in September in the UAE.
After some uncertainties, the schedule of the tournament has been announced recently as Bangladesh will take on Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Hong Kong in the group stage.
But before that, the Bangladesh Cricket Board is trying to fit a bilateral series in this vacant time.
The chairman of the cricket operations and the vice-president of the BCB, Najmul Abedeen Fahim, said that the discussion was going on regarding the matter.
It was learnt that BCB was trying to arrange a series with teams like Nepal and the Netherlands.
However, former national selector Minhajul Abedin thinks that the players deserve a rest and BCB should not over try to arrange a series.
‘See, the players have played many consecutive series in recent times. So they need to be freshened up too,’ Minhajul told reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Sunday.
‘From that perspective, they should not be forced to play a long series. I personally feel that they need a break.
‘If you can prepare mentally and then play a short series before going into the Asia Cup, it will be beneficial,’ he added.
However, if BCB cannot manage any series, the players will most likely take part in various skill and fitness camps.
The BCB is even considering arranging a specialised skill camp. It has been learnt that they are in contact with specialised power-hitting coach Julian Wood.
Wood previously worked in BPL; he has experience working in the Indian Premier League too.
After the Asia Cup, Bangladesh will host the West Indies for a white ball series in October, according to the Future Tour Programme of the ICC.
Ireland are scheduled to tour Bangladesh for an all-format series in November-December.
The T20 World Cup will be played between February and March next year in India and Sri Lanka.
