The decision regarding the forthcoming Asia Cup would be announced soon, said chairman of the Asian Cricket Council, Mohsin Naqvi, after its Annual General Meeting in Dhaka on Thursday.Ìý

Despite doubts over the participation of some members, including the Board of Control for Cricket in India, ACC stated that all 25 members participated either physically or virtually in the meeting.Ìý

‘First of all, Alhamdulillah, the AGM went very well. The ACC has 25 member nations, and all 25 participated in this meeting,’ Naqvi told reporters at a city hotel on Thursday.

‘I am thankful to all the members who came here in person, as well as those who joined through Zoom.’

The future of the Asia Cup was under cloud when it was reported that India would not participate in the AGM due to their unwillingness to travel to Dhaka in the current political situation.Ìý

However, late Wednesday night, Bangladesh Cricket Board president Aminul Islam stated that all the members agreed to participate for the ‘greater good’ of the game.Ìý

The Asia Cup is scheduled to be held in September this year, and India is the official host.Ìý

However, due to the political tension between India and Pakistan, the tournament will be held in the UAE if it gets the nod.Ìý

Naqvi said that the ACC would resolve the matter soon after discussing it with the BCCI.Ìý

‘We are in consultation with the BCCI and hope to resolve this very soon,’ said Naqvi.Ìý

‘It is more of an ACC and BCCI matter, and I am very hopeful that we will resolve the pending issues and will have the Asia Cup as planned,’ he added.Ìý

Naqvi, who’s also the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, also said that participation via online was very common.Ìý

‘Several countries could not come to Dhaka, and this happens every time due to schedules,’ he said.

‘For example, I could not attend a meeting in Singapore once for the same reason. The important point is that all 25 members participated in today’s meeting, which is good.’

He also stated that no member of the ACC wants politics in their organisation.Ìý

‘We have all decided to work for cricket. None of us wants politics inside any of our organisations, and it was a very good meeting in a very good atmosphere. I hope we will continue to have meetings like this in the future also,’ said Naqvi.Ìý

Among the major outcomes of the AGM were the approvals for the audited financial accounts, the ACC budget, and the comprehensive tournament calendar for 2025–2026, in line with ACC’s sustained commitment to delivering structured development and high-quality cricketing opportunities across its member countries.

The ACC also announced the inclusion of cricket in the upcoming Asian Games 2026 to be held in Japan, which would see the participation of 10 men’s and eight women’s teams from across the continent, to be chosen based on their rankings.

Naqvi thanked the BCB for organising the AGM for the very first time. Aminul also thanked ACC for giving them the opportunity.

‘On behalf of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, I would like to thank the Asian Cricket Council and its Chairman, Mr Mohsin Reza Naqvi, for giving us the opportunity to host this wonderful event in Dhaka. We are proud to say that our meeting has concluded very successfully,’ said Aminul.
