Bangladesh suffered a crushing 99-run loss to Sri Lanka in the third and final ODI and lose the series 2-1 at the Pallekele International Stadium in Kandy on Tuesday.Ìý

Chasing 286, Bangladesh were bowled out for 186 runs in 39.4 overs as they struggled to build partnerships or play big innings.Ìý


This was the third consecutive series defeat for the Tigers as their slump in the format continued.

Bangladesh lost their top order for 62 runs as Parvez Hossain (28) and Tanzid Hossain couldn’t capitalise on the starts while Najmul Hossain Shanto was out for a duck.Ìý

Towhid Hridoy, who made 51 off 78, held one end, but others fell around him.Ìý

Captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz looked promising at five but holed out after making 28 off 25. Shamim Hossain made 12 off 18. After Hridoy’s departure, it was all but over for the visitors.Ìý

Asitha Fernando and Dushmantha Chameera each took three wickets, while Wanindu Hasaranga and Dunith Wellalage took two wickets each.Ìý

Earlier, Sri Lanka posted 285-7 in 50 overs thanks to Kusal Mendis’ 124 off 114 and captain Charith Asalanka’s 58 off 68.Ìý

Mendis added 124 off 117 balls for the fourth wicket with Asalanka before adding 56 with Pathum Nissanka (35) for the second wicket.Ìý

Sri Lanka lost four wickets for 35 runs in the final overs, but Hasaranga (18) and Chameera took them to a challenging total.Ìý

All Bangladeshi bowlers bar Mustafizur Rahman were among the wickets as Taskin Ahmed and Mehidy each took two.Ìý

The two teams will play a three-match T20 series starting on July 10 at the same venue.Ìý
